The Choir of Kendal Parish Church is a wonderful opportunity for boys from the age of 7 - 8 upwards to experience the thrill of singing as a group and acquiring an excellent musical education. It is also a close-knit social group which encourages teamwork and caring mutual support. What these boys achieve is nothing short of incredible and would put many adult musicians to shame. They learn to sing some of the greatest music ever written and perform it expertly and to a professional standard.
Rehearsals are relaxed and enjoyable - a good combination of serious work mixed with laughter and humour.
There is also the Choir Club which has a superb clubroom and, during the summer, features football practice for when we play matches against other choirs.
And the boys get paid for each attendance with extra fees for weddings and special services. All trips are paid for too! We also give grants towards instrumental tuition.
As well as singing in one of the most beautiful buildings in the country, Kendal Parish Church, there is the opportunity to sing in other exciting venues. A few years ago we flew the choir to Geneva for a weekend to sing a concert and services. On July 2nd, we're back in the air as we fly Ryanair from Blackpool to Stansted and then travel on to Cambridge to sing in the magnificent chapel of Trinity College.
Next May, we have been invited to sing at St Paul's Cathedral in London. It's a big building! We need a big choir! This is why we need YOU!
From September, we need to start training up boys so that we have an excellent team to perform in this magnificent building.
On Wednesday. July 13th and Friday, July 15th we are inviting interested boys and their parents to join us at choir practice at 6.30pm. You can meet me, Hugh Davies, the Director of Music, see and hear the present boys in action, and find out a lot more about what we do. On Wednesday the boys can also join with the club activities at 7.30 - football outside if it's fine - and enjoy the facilities of our newly refurbished clubroom with computer games, pool and scalectrix.
Please come and see what we do! All the parents of our present boys will tell you that it is the most wonderful opportunity which has made a huge impression on their son's education and social life.
