Some Prayers of Katherine Parr

Katherine Parr, the daughter of Thomas Parr, was born in 1513 . She was to become sixth wife of Henry VIII and died in 1548 a year after him. Her book of devotions is kept in Kendal Mayor's parlour. It is written on parchment in her own hand, it is bound with silver and measures 6cm by 4cm by 1.5cm.

A booklet is available in the church with her caligraphy copied by hand and the spelling somewhat modified for present use. (The original can no longer be copied because of deterioration of the binding.) Three prayers have been scanned here from the church booklet:
